  • The Candidate is checked by doctor immediately when he or she enters in the Samta Blood Bank, in the physical checkup Candidate's Weight (that should be more than 45 KG) and Blood Pressure is checked.
  • The Haemoglobin is checked in the donation room and at the same time Blood Grouping is done.
  • According to weight of candidate blood bag is selected, if weight is over 55 KG then Double (450 ML) bag otherwise Single (350 ML) bag is taken
  • Now Registration Form or Donor's Form is filled which contains all the personal information of Donor.
  • Necessary entries are made in Donor Register.
  • Donor is pricked after choosing prominent vein and rubbing with 70% spirit and air dry.
  • Blood is collected in the blood bag.
  • After the donation of blood is completed, refreshments are given, Donation certificate and VBD Card is issued to the donor which is helpful to take a concession while taking blood from blood bank for anybody.
  • Here is what happens with the blood after collecting from the donor. If there is a single bag then it will be directly stored in storage to be issued as whole blood but if bag is double or triple then it will be moved to separation department where the PCV (Packed Cell Volume), FFP (Plasma) and RDP (Platelet) are separated with the technical process. All contents are stored separately. Whole blood and PCV are stored at 20 to 40 deg Celsius temperature and have validity of 35 days. FFP or Plasma is stored in (minus)-400 de celsius and have validity of 1 year and the RDP is stored in agitator machine in 220 deg celsius which continuously goes through the vertical movement so it does not get clotted.
  • Sample of blood from each bag is taken for HIV (Human Immuno Virus), HBsAg (Hepatitis B), HCV (), VDRL (Viral Disease Research Laboratory Test), and MP (Malaria Parasite).
  • All these reports are noted in the serological register, Blood Bank shall not disclose any of the information to anyone under any circumstances.

How to get blood :

  • Requisition form is received as per medical Officer's requirement duly filled by Doctor of the hospital and sent to the Blood bank.
  • Cross match register is maintained here and all the information of the blood bag (taken at the time of donation) and requisition form is matched (provided by the hospital) and bag is issued with the signature and name of the person who has come on behalf of the hospital.
  • If there is no requirement of the bag till the expiry then blood bag is discarded in discarding machine, such bags are not allowed outside the blood bank without proper discarding procedures.
